Saturday morning inspiration.

This week was a busy one in our kitchen. For the first time in a long time, we cooked dinner together on four weeknights and made four delectable and completely different meals. This week was not so great for my photography, though. Dealing with winter light (or lack thereof) has rendered my photos lifeless, and I am still having trouble learning how to use my camera. I have little to offer you in terms of recipes and photos this week, but I would like to share some of the things that have inspired me recently.

The simplicity of this recipe blew my mind. I can’t wait to try cooking lentils this way.
I want to do this with a chicken and my cast iron skillet. This particular cook makes amazing food.
Even when life gets really difficult, Helene can still take a beautiful photo of a simple cake.
My bottle of applejack is almost empty, but I have enough to make a few of these.
Why have I not played with citrus yet? It’s high time to do so.
Making pavlova has long been on my to-try list. This version is gorgeous and unique.
I have longed to recreate my long lost favorite ice cream flavor in its original form.
A much appreciated Christmas gift from my godmother. We cooked dinner from it twice this week!
Recent cold temperatures and light snowfall calls for a heaping helping of something warm and hearty.

Being surrounded by inspiration is a fantastic motivator when my creative skills aren’t at their best. I’m going to go hunker down with my copy of Plate to Pixel and a bowl of oranges and attempt to regain control of my photography. See you soon, friends!

Don’t worry, Plate to Pixel has stressed me out so much in the photography department! Also, the run has been setting so early that I’ve started creating all of my content on the weekends.

I have so much to learn; that book is such a godsend! I have been thinking about ways to photograph my food when there is natural light. I like your suggestion about shooting on the weekends. Thanks!

I saw someone was selling some light equipment on First Class. That would allow you to get great shots no matter where you were:) Having good light really helps – if I wasn’t fretting about the cost of moving, I’d snatch it right up.

Thanks for sharing your inspirations, and what a snazzy layout you’ve got here;)

Here’s the thing: Kevin has a speedlight, which was wonderful last winter when I was taking terrible pictures of food. Said speedlight is currently being utilized to take photos of sediment that his worms have burrowed through, so I am left lightless this winter. I’m saving up for a new computer–mine died last week! And thinking about moving gives me a mild panic attack. We’ll be moving soon enough…
